The compliance deadline
In 2018, Convertro along with the rest of the tech industry conducting any business within the EU came under the enforcement of General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). To mitigate risk and stay in compliance, Convertro needed to backport GDPR onto their existing stack. I took up the task and built the client-facing front-end that would allow businesses to request their data and any private data of their users to be expunged from Convertro's system.
Building the data-expungement flow
The project, from start to finish, took around a month. I built the front end as well as the test infrastructure that would integrate with the backend and stress test the system. New technologies were also used, including AWS API Gateway and Lambda.
Open-sourcing the implementation
The quick implementation of the GDPR system was impressive to Convertro's parent company, AOL, and they requested the implementation be made open source and provided to the community. You can see the implementation that I built along with the team here.
